Join Us for the "Last Stand Backyard Ultra & 10K" – Saturday, April 5. 2025
Are you ready to test your limits, both mental and physical? Whether you're a seasoned ultra-runner or looking for a fresh challenge, the Last Stand Backyard Ultra promises an unforgettable experience filled with endurance, strategy, and camaraderie.
Set Your own Goal
You may not be interested in running 100 Miles or 75 Miles or 50 Miles. You may just want to run a marathon distance or half marathon. You may want to Run 5 or 8 or 10 miles. You may want to come out to take a peek at what endurance running is all about and begin to experience the comradery of long distance runners and their support crews. You may want to do a "dry run" for a race that you want to run somewhere down the road. You may want to do give your support crew an audition for something coming up. At the Last Stand Ultra, you can set your own goal! That goal may be to win the race or anything else you decide.
The Backyard Ultra
This isn’t just a race—it’s a battle of perseverance and grit. The Backyard Ultra takes place on a 4.18-mile scenic course, with start times beginning at 8:00 AM and repeating every hour, on the hour. Runners have just one hour to complete the loop and return to the start line, ready to begin again on time. The race continues until only one runner remains who can finish the loop and start the next loop on time.
Think you've got what it takes? This race will test your mental fortitude, physical toughness, and strategic thinking. Refreshments will be available at the start line, but we encourage all participants to bring a support crew to meet your unique needs.

About the Course
The Loch Lothian Last Stand Ultra course will take you through some incredible scenery right in the heart of Midlothian. The course begins and ends at Midlothian Middle School and runners will traverse roads, sidewalks, paths, bridges, and trails throughout historic Midlothian Mines Park. It is a unique and varied course. Along the way runners will enjoy scenery including Loch Lothian Lake, the Midlothian Mines ruins, replica mining headstock, and miles of trails. Please use caution, be aware and look out for each other.
